University of Wroclaw in Times Higher Education WUR by Subject 2025
The latest edition of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject, published on 22 January, included as many as eight disciplines of science at the University of Wrocław. As was the case last year, the highest rankings were Law (ranked 301+) and Psychology (ranked 301-400).
The Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject is one of the most important university rankings, assessing 2,000 universities worldwide in 11 different academic disciplines (subjects).
The law of the University of Wrocław, which was ranked among the 301+ best-rated law disciplines in the world, came third in the country, ex aequo with several other universities. Only Jagiellonian University and the University of Warsaw were ahead of us.
Our psychology, which ranked between 301 and 400 best in the world, was ranked first in Poland, sharing the podium with psychology at UW and UJ.
The University of Wrocław also ranked highly, in the group of 401-500 best universities in the world, in the discipline of pedagogy (Education Studies). It is worth noting that our pedagogy is on the third place in Poland ex aequo with the pedagogy of the University of Warsaw (the first place in the country went ex aequo to the pedagogy conducted at the UAM and UJ).
We also ranked among the 401-500 best universities in Arts & Humanities. We are ranked fourth in the country in this field. In THE ranking, the Arts & Humanities field is very broad, with philological sciences classified here, as well as history, art history, archaeology, musicology and also philosophy.
This year, the University of Wroclaw was ranked 801-1000 of the world’s best universities in the Computer Science discipline, as well as in the Social Sciences and Life Sciences fields covering both biology and biotechnology.
Our university was also ranked in the science discipline (THE ranking includes both physical sciences and chemistry, mathematics and geology), in which it received a ranking of 1000+.
The discipline rankings took into account the same indicators as the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025, published in October 2024, but the methodology was adapted to the individual science disciplines.
University disciplines were assessed in five areas: teaching, research environment (a category that included indicators related to reputation, income allocated to the discipline and productivity), research quality (publications and citations), international outlook (internationalisation in terms of staff, students and research collaborations) and industry (income from knowledge transfer to industry and patents).
Each area consisted of several indicators, there were 18 in total, each with a specific percentage weighting affecting the overall score. These weights varied from discipline to discipline.
The ranking body obtains data for the ranking from several sources: surveys completed by universities, the Scopus bibliographic database (publications and citations) and a reputation survey about each discipline conducted by Times Higher Education among academics from around the world.
The full results of the ranking can be found on the website.
The ranking methodology is available here.
