It’s time for the Universiada to begin!
All young science enthusiasts from grades 5 to 8 of primary school who are familiar with scientific experiments are invited to take part in the Universiada! The Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Wrocław and the Polish Association of Chemical Engineers – Wrocław Branch are organising a unique competition for science enthusiasts for the third time.
– The competition is open to teams of 2-5 pupils in grades 5-8 from Lower Silesian primary schools, supervised by an adult – for example a teacher, but it can also be a parent or a volunteer from an organisation working with children of that age. The team must propose their own scientific project, – says dr Maciej Modzel, plenipotentiary of the Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry for the popularisation of science, adding that the project, although carried out under the supervision of a supervisor, is entirely the work of the young scientists. – It is the young people who choose the issue they want to address, and then prepare and conduct the entire scientific project: they read the literature, design the experiment, conduct the research and draw conclusions. At the end of the work, a report is produced that goes to the competition jury.
How do I register for the competition? – The group is registered by the mentor using the form found at www.universiada.pl. The deadline for entries is 28.02.2025. The form must include the title and a brief description of the proposed project. On this basis, the organisers will qualify teams for further participation in the competition. Qualified teams will have until mid-April (16.04) to perform experiments and send in their final reports. On their basis, the organisers will qualify the teams to participate in the competition’s Final Gala – explains dr Modzel.

The Universiade Final Gala will take place at the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Wrocław at the end of May/beginning of June (the exact date will be announced, among others, on the UWr homepage). During the Gala, participants will present the results of their project at stands set up in any form they choose. The jury, consisting of representatives of the PPG company, the University of Wrocław and the Wrocław branch of SITPChem, will evaluate the presentations and select the first, second and third place winners, who will receive cash prizes.
PPG is the sponsor of the Universiada.
The event has received the honorary patronage of the Rector of the University of Wrocław, prof. Robert Olkiewicz.
