UWr experts in the Spatial Economy and Regional Planning of the Polish Academy of Sciences
Dr Zbigniew Mogiła from the Department of International Economic Relations and European Integration at the Institute for International and Security Studies (Faculty of Social Sciences) has been elected to the Committee on Spatial Economy and Regional Planning of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN). This is one of the most important expert bodies in Poland, dealing with regional policy and the spatial management of the country.
Dr Zbigniew Mogiła has been involved in regional development for 18 years, using macroeconomic models. He is co-author of the HERMIN models – one of the main research tools used in the European Union to assess the effectiveness of public policies, in particular the European Commission’s cohesion policy. – Together with dr John Bradley and prof. Janusz Zaleski, we are authors of the first macroeconomic models for Ukrainian regions – says the researcher.
He has worked for many years with government and local administrations in the field of evaluation research and development strategies. He has participated in more than 70 research projects, collaborating with the most renowned research teams in Europe in the field of regional development.
A presentation of a major study for the Ministry of Development Funds and Regional Policy, in which he participated, will take place in early March. – The study concerns the impact of the cohesion policy implemented in Poland on the economic development of other EU countries and should resonate during the Polish presidency of the EU Council – believes dr Mogiła.
The Committee brings together distinguished scientists, experts and representatives of state administration, and its membership is a recognition of scientific and expert achievements. Since the beginning of the Committee’s term of office, it has also included dr hab. Krzysztof Janc, prof. UWr from the Department of Spatial Planning (Institute of Geography and Regional Development, Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences), who is the chairman of the task force on rural areas.
