Collaboration between the University of Wrocław and the National Forum of Music
On 6 March, the University of Wrocław entered into a cooperation agreement with the Witold Lutosławski National Forum for Music in Wrocław. The cooperation agreement was signed in the Senate Room of the University of Wrocław by Olga Humeńczuk, Director of the National Forum of Music, and prof. dr hab. Robert Olkiewicz, Rector of the University of Wrocław.
Our University has been cooperating with this cultural institution, co-managed by the Municipality of Wrocław, the Minister of Culture and National Heritage and the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, for a long time. Now the joint research, artistic and didactic projects, as well as those popularising knowledge of musical culture, have been formally sealed.
– Frequent visitors to the National Forum of Music have had the opportunity to participate in joint projects, e.g. research conferences on the musical culture of Silesia, or popularising lectures for the general public conducted by employees of our Institute of Musicology (most often by dr Agnieszka Drożdżewska and dr Grzegorz Joachimiak).
I also had the opportunity to introduce music lovers to the figure of the Silesian-born Józef Elsner, known primarily as a teacher of Fryderyk Chopin, who was also a graduate of our Wrocław Accademia Leopoldina, a fact not always remembered – says prof. Remigiusz Pośpiech, musicologist and director of the Institute of Musicology at the University of Wrocław. – I am convinced that our cooperation, which has been developing excellently for several years, will be further intensified thanks to the formal signing of the agreement, will gain new areas of activity, and will bring tangible benefits to both communities in terms of science and art – adds prof. Remigiusz Pośpiech.
What can the University offer the NFM?
Thanks to the cooperation with the Digital Musicology Workshop – among other things, participation in documentation and source projects.
In addition to educational and popularisation activities, this can include joint publishing activities, substantive supervision of scientific projects concerning the history of musical culture, especially the musical life of Wrocław in the historical and contemporary perspective.
Of course it is important to cooperate in the organisation of scientific conferences, seminars, lectures, educational workshops or field research, or to conduct educational and social campaigns concerning musical life and the dissemination of music.
What can the NFM offer to the University?
Not only by giving UWr students and graduates the opportunity to carry out internships and work placements in the Department of Education and Popularisation of Music and the Department of Production of artistic events, but also by inviting lecturers and students to give lectures, talks and workshops as part of projects such as the Academy of Music Lovers or Music and …;
Also the organisation of lectures introducing the musical life of the University of Wrocław and familiarising music lovers with the specificity of the work of the Institute of Musicology (with the Digital Musicology Unit and the Sound Landscape Laboratory) or the special collections of the University Library.
The promotion of the research results of students and academics at numerous educational, popularisation, concert and festival events, or making the NFM’s archive resources available for research into the musical life of Wrocław.
