Winogrady i winne wzgórza – announcement of a new book by prof. Dagmara Adamska
Winogrady i winne wzgórza. Uprawa i produkcja wina na średniowiecznym Śląsku by prof. Dagmara Adamska from the Department of Polish and General History until the 15th Century, (Historical Institute, Faculty of Historical and Pedagogical Sciences) is a journey to a world where Silesia was one of the important wine production centers in this part of Europe. Dagmara Adamska describes the now somewhat forgotten (but systematically restored) tradition of a region where wine was not only a status symbol, but also an important element of culture and economy.
We are looking forward to the book, in which the author leads the reader step by step through the history of medieval Silesian vineyards, discovering their locations and cultivation methods, the markets for wines produced in the region and the directions from which the beverage was imported, as well as the customs and table culture of the time associated with drinking wine. Her book is also a history of winegrowers and their work. Prof. Adamska analyzes in detail the scale of wine production from the 12th to the 16th century, reconstructs the technical aspects of the successive stages of its production and describes the role of wine in the customs of the inhabitants of medieval Silesia.
We look forward to a monograph, illustrated with maps, rich period iconography and photographs of unique industry artifacts, describing more than fifty medieval sites with vineyards, wineries and cellars that were centers of social and economic life from Cieszyn and Bielsko to Świebodzin and Krosno Odrzańskie, including those in Wrocław and the Sudeten foothills.
Scientific Journals on the Web and other OJS platforms in Europe
Last week, the WUWr Coordinator responsible for the platform on which the publishing house makes open access scholarly journals available attended an international meeting organised by the Dutch platform Openjournals.nl together with the Public Knowledge Project, an organisation that provides and develops Open Journal Systems software. The meeting was aimed at sharing experiences, learning from each other and exploring opportunities for collaboration between large and national Open Journal Systems platforms from Europe. Platform representatives from Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Lithuania, the Netherlands and Germany attended the meeting.
Ewa Balcerzyk-Atys presented the situation of journal platforms in Poland, including the Czasopisma Naukowe w Sieci platform. She talked about the technical, financial and organisational challenges faced by platforms in Poland and their plans for the future.
After hearing about the activities of foreign platforms, we have a lot of inspiration to act and develop Czasopisma Naukowe w Sieci.
If you have any comments on the functioning of the journal platform, please share your thoughts with the University of Wrocław Press!
