Witold Płecha is a laureate of the Polish Mathematical Society competition
As was the case last year, our student was among the winners of the Polish Mathematical Society’s competition for the best student paper on the theory of probability and applications of mathematics. The results of the LVIII edition of this competition were announced on 19 February. This time, among the winners was our graduate, Witold Płecha, whose master’s thesis entitled ‘Some Limit Theorems for Random Randomness. ‘Some Limit Theorems for Random Weighted n-partite Complete Graphs’, written under the supervision of dr Piotr Dyszewski (UWr Mathematical Institute), took second place.
Witold Płecha’s paper deals with random graph structures, and the results presented therein are a generalisation of S. Janson’s earlier achievements from the late 1990s, introducing new methods for the analysis of asymmetric cases. In contrast to previous research, which focused on highly symmetric structures, the paper investigates cases where symmetry is disturbed, precisely pointing out the limitations of the methods used so far. The proof techniques developed can be used for further research on even more complex graph structures.
Full results of the competition are available on the website of the Polish Mathematical Society.
