A new university building in the city centre
The tender for the construction contractor of the building for the Centre of Polish-Ukrainian Cooperation and the Institute of Musicology has been announced. The start of the bids is planned for the middle of May 2025. However, we already know how the building on ul. Kuźnicza will look like.
In 2022, the Prime Minister granted the University of Wrocław purpose-specific government bonds worth PLN 110 million. PLN 30 million is allocated for the construction of the Centre of Polish-Ukrainian Cooperation at ul. Kuźnicza 29b (the former site of Kalogródek).
The mission of the Centre will be to support and enhance Ukrainian education via cooperation between the University of Wrocław and Ukrainian universities.
The design of the building was made by Pracownia Architekt S.C. J. Modlinger, M. Wołyniec from Wrocław. The project cost around PLN 530,000, of which PLN 150,000 is the cost of the original design from 2019.
Inside the building, the students will have access to modern lecture halls and seminar rooms as well as a library full of phonographic collections. Moreover, the building will have a concert hall which will allow for conducting not only classes but also conferences, concerts and other musical events. It will create new opportunities for the artistic development of students, cooperation between faculties and increase the presence of the University of Wrocław in the cultural life of the city.
As it was stated by Damian Mroczyński, Deputy Director General of the University of Wrocław, “The execution of this investment will focus on the rules of sustainable development, modern architectural standards, and availability for people with disabilities. It will create a multifunctional and inclusive environment for students”.
Construction is scheduled to begin during the summer holiday and should last for around 2 years.
The remaining bonds (PLN 80 million) are to be invested in the construction of the Physical and Chemical Research Centre of the University of Wrocław.
