Academic staff and education at the University of Wrocław highly rated in CWUR 2025 ranking
The University of Wrocław has been ranked 937th globally and 4th among Polish universities in the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) 2025, published on 2 June. Notably, it is the only Polish institution to be ranked in the “Faculty” category, securing 269th place worldwide.
In this year’s edition of the international CWUR ranking, the University of Wrocław placed 937th globally, positioning us among the top 4.4% of higher education institutions worldwide. Within Europe, we achieved 352nd place.
Among classical Polish universities, we ranked fourth, following the Jagiellonian University, the University of Warsaw, and Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, which outperformed us by only 0.5 points.
Our strongest indicator, as in previous years, was academic staff (Faculty). In this category, we were the only Polish university to be ranked, placing 269th globally.
We also achieved a very respectable 489th place in the world and 3rd nationally in the “Quality of Education” category, where we were surpassed only by the Warsaw University of Technology and the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW).
The ranking assessed over 21,000 universities and research institutions from around the globe. The final published list includes the top 2,000. The leading institutions in this year’s ranking were Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Stanford University.
A total of 40 Polish universities and research institutions made it into the CWUR global TOP 2000 list this year.
The ranking is compiled by the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR), a consulting organisation providing strategic advice on improving the quality of higher education and research. CWUR is known for publishing trusted global university rankings, recognised for their objectivity, transparency, and consistency.
Ranking methodology
The CWUR ranking, published annually since 2012, does not rely on data submitted by universities or surveys. Instead, it draws from bibliometric databases and publicly available sources. CWUR evaluates universities and research institutes based on four categories:
- Research Output (40% weight)
- Quality of Education (25% weight)
- Alumni Employment (25% weight)
- Faculty (10% weight)
In the most heavily weighted category, Research Output, both quantity and quality are assessed. This includes the total number of scientific publications by the institution, publications in top-tier journals, articles in highly influential journals, and citation counts.
Quality of Education is determined by the number of university graduates who have received prestigious academic distinctions, with results adjusted for institution size.
Alumni Employment is measured by the number of graduates holding executive-level positions at the world’s largest companies, specifically those listed in the Forbes Global 2000, again adjusted for university size.
Faculty quality is assessed by the number of academic staff who have received prestigious international awards, medals, or similar honours.
More information about the ranking can be found on the CWUR website.
