The ‘Pearl of Science’ award for our graduate

At the end of November, the first edition of the Pearls of Science competition was held in Warsaw. Among the recipients of research grants was our graduate Wiktoria Morawska.

She applied for a grant from the ‘Pearls of Science’ programme while still a student at the University of Wrocław. The grant was awarded to her after she defended her master’s thesis at the University of Wrocław. Currently, her research is being conducted at the Polish Academy of Sciences. Our graduate continues to collaborate with, among others, prof. Wanda Patrzałek from the Institute of Sociology at the University of Wrocław.

While still a student at the University of Wrocław, Wiktoria Morawska received a scholarship from the Ministry of Education and Science for the 2021/2022 academic year, awarded for significant scientific achievements, and also won a research grant ‘The Best of the Best’. Currently, as a graduate of art history, sociology, economic sociology and Interdisciplinary European Studies at the Willy Brandt Centre for German and European Studies at the University of Wrocław, she is conducting research at the Polish Academy of Sciences. The aim of her project is to analyse gender inequalities in social allocation in the lives of young, successful women: professionals and entrepreneurs. Preliminary research has shown that women in this group internalise the patriarchal social structure and feel ambivalence about fulfilling or attempting to reject traditional gender roles. This manifests itself in a set of negative emotions such as guilt, the so-called impostor syndrome, chronic stress and pressure.

More about the research.

How to apply and win Pearls of Science? We encourage you to watch the film featuring grant winners, including Wiktoria Morawska. The next call for applications will be announced next year.
