University of Wrocław advances in QS World University Rankings 2026

For another consecutive year, the University of Wrocław has climbed the ranks in one of the most prestigious university rankings, the QS World University Rankings 2026, published on 19 June. The university is placed in the 801–850 group among the best higher education institutions worldwide. In the previous edition of the ranking, it was positioned within the 851–900 band. Among Polish universities, we are ranked fifth, while among classical universities we hold fourth place. In the Lower Silesian region, we are the highest-ranked institution.

This year’s ranking is led by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, followed by Imperial College London in second place, and Stanford University in third.

The QS WUR ranking, published for over twenty years by Quacquarelli Symonds – a leader in providing analytical services for the international higher education sector – is one of the four most important global university rankings.

In this edition, QS assessed over 8,000 higher education institutions worldwide, with 1,501 making it to the final list.

The ranking includes 20 Polish universities, two fewer than last year. The University of Wrocław ranks fourth among Polish classical universities.

Considering all types of higher education institutions in Poland, we share fifth place ex aequo with the AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków and Gdańsk University of Technology. The podium positions among Polish universities remain unchanged. The University of Warsaw holds first place again, followed by Jagiellonian University in second, and Warsaw University of Technology in third.

Our strongest indicators are Faculty Student Ratio (ranked 436th worldwide) and Academic Reputation (ranked 599th). Good results in these categories confirm our commitment to the quality of education we provide to our students, and that the University of Wrocław is well-known and respected by scholars around the world.

Ranking Methodology

In the QS World University Rankings, the most significant indicator, carrying a weight of 30%, is the university’s recognition among academic staff (Academic Reputation). Another key metric, weighted at 20%, is the normalised citation impact per faculty member. The ranking also takes into account the institution’s reputation among employers (Employer Reputation) – weighted at 15%, and the ratio of academic staff to students (Faculty Student Ratio) – weighted at 10%. The remaining indicators, each with a weight of 5%, include internationalisation of academic staff (International Faculty), proportion of international students (International Students), international research collaboration (International Research Network), sustainability, and graduate employability (Employment Outcomes).
