Agreement signed for the construction of a new UWr building
A new building of the University of Wrocław will be constructed at ul. Kuźnicza 29b. The contract for its construction has now been signed.
On 21 August 2025, the University of Wrocław signed an agreement with P.B. Alfa Dach Sp. z o.o. for the construction of the Polish–Ukrainian Cooperation Centre, a facility that will include teaching areas and a library for the Faculty of Historical and Pedagogical Sciences (specifically, the Institute of Musicology). The building will be located at ul. Kuźnicza 29b.
This investment will provide Wrocław with a modern urban facility, thoughtfully integrated into the city’s existing structure. The University of Wrocław has allocated nearly PLN 29 million to finance the project.
Under the agreement, the general contractor, P.B. Alfa Dach Sp. z o.o., will construct the modern building on the site of the former “Kalogródka” within 24 months, based on a design prepared by the experienced Wrocław-based architectural firm ARCHITEKT s.c. Juliusz Modlinger & Marek Wołyniec.
The contract was signed by the Rector of the University of Wrocław, Professor Robert Olkiewicz, and Janusz Trebenda, President of the Management Board of P.B. Alfa Dach Sp. z o.o.
The Centre will house, among other things, a unit of the University responsible for cooperation and support for Ukrainian academia (through partnerships with Ukrainian universities), as well as the Institute of Musicology.
The University of Wrocław, together with the main contractor and the designers, will make every effort to ensure that the new building serves not only educational purposes but also artistic and social functions.
In addition to state-of-the-art lecture and seminar rooms, the building will feature a specialist library with a phonographic collection.
A key element of the new infrastructure will be a concert hall, acoustically designed and properly equipped to facilitate both academic instruction and the hosting of music events, concerts, and academic conferences. This high-quality music space will create new opportunities for students’ artistic development, interdisciplinary collaboration, and will strengthen the University’s presence in the cultural life of the city.
The Wrocław-based company P.B. Alfa Dach Sp. z o.o. is among the construction firms offering comprehensive realisation and management of building projects, including public utility facilities, residential buildings, warehouses, industrial halls, modernisations, and heritage renovations.
The scope of construction work includes, among other things, preparation of work platforms, securing of excavations, demolition of old basement walls, installation of modern insulation, a green roof, lighting systems, monitoring systems, and specialist workspaces tailored for music-related activities.
The building will be recreated as a three-dimensional BIM (Building Information Modelling) model, enabling precise management of all investment stages and future facility operation.
Due to its location in the very heart of Wrocław’s Old Town at the intersection of ul. Kuźnicza (a pedestrian zone) and ul. Uniwersytecka (a one-way street), the new building’s construction will cause disruptions for local residents and visitors. People living on nearby streets, students, employees of local businesses, University staff, and tourists should expect temporary communication and logistical challenges. Additional complications may occur during the initial phase of the project, due to concurrent construction works at the neighbouring building — the UWr Historical Institute.
We are grateful to all neighbours of the construction site for their understanding during the project.
Calendar
On 12 March 2025, the University of Wrocław published a tender notice on the public procurement portal for the construction of the Polish–Ukrainian Cooperation Centre, which is to include teaching areas and a library for the Faculty of Historical and Pedagogical Sciences at ul. Kuźnicza 29b. A total of 11 companies submitted bids for the project. The offers were opened on 13 May 2025, and the bid from Inare Sp. z o.o. was initially selected. However, due to reasons beyond the University’s control, the agreement could not be finalised. Consequently, the second-best offer, selected according to the evaluation criteria set out in the tender procedure, was accepted. On 21 August 2025, the University signed the construction contract with P.B. Alfa Dach Sp. z o.o. for the building at ul. Kuźnicza 29b.
