BORDERS – CONFLICT – WAR – Congress of Military Historians at the University of Wrocław (photo report)

On Monday, 29 August 2022, the XLVII Congress of the International Commission of Military History will commence at the University of Wrocław. Its central theme will be The Defence of Borders in Military History. An international gathering of specialists in military history will debate regions and issues which, while deeply rooted in the past, continue to feature prominently in today’s headlines: Ukraine, North Africa, Mexico and Finland are but a few examples.

As Professor Artur Błażejewski, Vice-Rector for Research, explains:

– We are launching a series of major academic events at the University of Wrocław next Monday with an international congress on military history. In the present circumstances, everything we say about the history of warfare and the defence of borders carries a very contemporary resonance. This will be an opportunity to hear world-renowned international experts speak on issues that concern us today as well, for history remains the teacher of life.

The Congress is organised by:
– The Polish Commission of Military History
– The Faculty of History, University of Opole
– The Faculty of Historical and Pedagogical Sciences, University of Wrocław
– The General Tadeusz Kościuszko Military University of Land Forces
– The Commission of Military History of the Polish Historical Society
– PROLUSATIA Polish–Sorbian Association

Under the patronage of:
– Mr Michał Jach, Chair of the National Defence Committee of the Polish Parliament (Sejm)
– Honorary patronage: Mr Andrzej Buła, Marshal of the Opole Voivodeship
– Mr Cezary Przybylski, Marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship
