From UWr to the Academy of Young Scholars and Artists

Among the new members of the Academy of Young Scholars and Artists is our doctoral student, Kacper Rosner-Leszczyński. Membership of the Academy is open to individuals under the age of 35 who have distinguished themselves with outstanding academic achievements. Each term of office lasts five years.

The Academy of Young Scholars and Artists, established in 2010, functions as an advisory body to the Mayor of Wrocław. Its members carry out joint initiatives for the benefit of the city’s residents at the intersection of science and the arts. One of its key aims is to provide Wrocław’s most talented young scholars with a space in which they can develop independently and autonomously. More about the Academy

Kacper Rosner-Leszczyński is a doctoral candidate at the UWr Historical History. My research focuses primarily on social history, the history of medicine, and the so-called Recovered Territories he explains. Since 2025, I have been leading the research project Traces of War in the Recovered Territories – Appropriation and Perception by New Settlers, 1945–1949, in which I study the material remnants of the Second World War in these areas. I seek to understand and explain how the omnipresent destruction and post-battle landscape shaped the experiences of settlers arriving in the Western and Northern Territories.

Membership of the Academy is a great distinction for our doctoral student. – As I am probably the youngest member of the group, I feel not only a great responsibility in being here, but also an honour in having been chosen – he admits.

Undoubtedly, his previous academic activity – also made possible through university programmes and competitions such as Young Researcher – contributed to the commission’s decision. Find out more about the programme

The work of the Academy of Young Scholars and Artists is closely tied to shaping the scientific and cultural policy of Wrocław and Lower Silesia. – I greatly value the interdisciplinarity of the group, which allows us to view research problems from a broader perspective. My idea is to reach even further beyond the university walls, to inspire secondary school students with science and support them in shaping their future academic careers. I have also planned several other projects that I hope to realise during my term – but I’ll keep those to myself for now – adds Kacper Rosner-Leszczyński.

Last year, the Academy welcomed dr Justyna Zeler, assistant professor at the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Wrocław.

In 2023, new members included dr Aleksandra Ziober and dr Sandra Kozieł (Faculty of Chemistry). In earlier years, prof. UWr Anna Potysz and dr Filip Duszyński also joined.

The Academy of Young Scholars and Artists, founded in 2010, continues to serve as an advisory team to the Mayor of Wrocław, engaging in interdisciplinary projects that bring together science and the arts. Its mission remains to create a space for Wrocław’s exceptional young researchers to grow and develop independently.

Our warmest congratulations!
