Faculty of Social Sciences

It’s one of the biggest faculties of the university. The Faculty of Social Sciences  offers state-of-the-art programmes, and many of its students are awarded merit-based grants of the Minister of Science and Higher Education.

The faculty consists of:

Institute of Political Science
Institute of International Studies
Institute of Sociology
Institute of Philosophy
Chair of Logic and Science Methodology,

Institute of European Studies

The students are offered the following fields: philosophy, social work,sociology, economic sociology, sociology of dispositional groups, political science, public policy, international relations, European studies, European diplomacy, national security management, social projects management, national security, and international security.

Bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes in English are widely popular, as are international study visits under Erasmus+ programme. There are also two pioneering PhD Programmes in English (PHD in Political Science and PHD in Sociology).

In the field of international relations the students can pursue Double Degree Programme and receive diplomas of the University of Wrocław and the University of Padova.

The institutes of the Faculty of Social Sciences conduct research in the areas of political sciences, social policy, international economic relations, international relations and security, German and Silesian studies, empirical and theoretical sociology in relation to the problems of the sociology of culture and civilization, education, urban and rural sociology, the sociology of science and knowledge, public sphere, consumer behaviours, gender and family, borderlands, dispositional groups, general and applied sociology,, ancient and medieval sources of European cultural identity, sources of Christian, modern, classic German and contemporary philosophy, history of mysticism, especially Silesian, contemporary political and social philosophy and contemporary ethical and aesthetical concepts, calculation of sentences, logical methods, history of logic, relations between logic, philosophy and mathematics.

The students develop their interests in the Group of Young Political Scientists which publishes  Politicus magazine, as well as other students’ scientific circles specific to the disciplines and areas represented in the Faculty.
