
Open lecture by Prof. Emma Pearson at the Institute of Pedagogy
The Department of Early Childhood and Primary Education at the Institute of Pedagogy of the Faculty of Historical and Pedagogical Sciences invites to an open lecture by Professor Emma Pearson from Maynooth University (Froebel Department of Primary and Early Childhood Education) entitled Preparing Children and Teachers for Sustainable Futures through Ethics of Care.
The lecture will take place on Thursday, 16 October 2025, from 10:15 to 11:45 a.m., in room 21 (ground floor) at the Institute of Pedagogy, ul. Dawida 1, Wrocław.
The event is organised as part of the Visiting Professors – IDUB UWr programme.
Bio
Professor Emma Pearson is a recognised expert in research aimed at understanding and documenting the perspectives and experiences of children and families from underprivileged and marginalised backgrounds, particularly in the context of sustainable development and learning. Over the past 15 years, she has collaborated with early childhood agencies, including UNICEF, UNESCO, Plan International, and the UK Department for International Development (FCDO), to promote policies supporting community-based, equitable access to early education. She has led prestigious projects for organisations such as the Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority, UAEU Start Up, UNESCO Dakar, UNICEF Gulf Region Office, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Professor Pearson has authored over 30 publications, including first-author papers in leading journals (e.g., Ethnicity and Health, International Journal of Special Education, Early Childhood Research Quarterly), two monographs, and numerous book chapters. She serves on the Editorial Board of Early Childhood Research Quarterly and is an active member of international academic associations, including ARNEC, the British Association for International and Comparative Education, the British Educational Research Association, and the Association for Childhood Education International. She has acted as a reviewer for prestigious funding bodies, such as Research Awards, the European Research Council (ERC Starting Grants 2020 and 2022), Australian Aid Development, and UNESCO, Paris. Over the past five years, she has been a keynote speaker at nine international conferences. Professor Pearson is currently Deputy Head of Faculty. She has previously worked as a Senior Researcher at the UNICEF Gulf Office and as an Adjunct Professor at United Arab Emirates University. Her academic experience also includes positions at Sheffield University, Universiti Brunei Darussalam, Macquarie University (Sydney), and The University of Hong Kong.
