6th edition of the “Melodies of Three Generations” concert
On Monday, 20 October at 4:00 p.m., the SKNR WroSlawianie from the Institute of Slavic Studies, together with the co-organisers – the Centre for Culture and Arts, the UWr International Office and the UWr Office for Student and Doctoral Activities – invite you to the 6th edition of the “Melodies of Three Generations” concert.
The concert is held under the patronage of the Rector of the University of Wrocław, prof. Robert Olkiewicz and the Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic in Wrocław, Mr Arkadiusz Ignasiak.
In accordance with tradition, we conclude the academic year with the May Not Only Slavic Song Contest and begin the new academic year with the “Melodies of Three Generations”. On the stage of the Oratorium Marianum, every October, three generations perform for a multi-generational audience, presenting their parents’ and grandparents’ favourite songs as well as covers of contemporary hits, not only in Polish.
The programme features students, graduates and lecturers from three faculties: the Faculty of Letters, the Faculty of Languages, Literatures and Cultures, the Faculty of Social Communication and Media Studies, as well as participants from the University of Life Sciences and the Wrocław University of Economics.
The concert will open with second-year Russian Studies student Marta Mizgała, performing a beautiful piece by Ukrainian singer and pianist Maria Chaikovska, entitled “В комнате цветных пелерин”. This will be her first performance on the Oratorium Marianum stage.
Lea Wiegand, a Romance Studies student from IFR and last year’s winner of the 21st Not Only Slavic Song Contest with her stunning Spanish rendition of Ave Maria, will now present Chopin’s Życzenie to the audience.
The nearly fifty-year-old hit “Somebody to Love” by Queen, Freddie Mercury’s favourite song, will be performed by multiple KPS laureate, IDiKS graduate, and current Speech Therapy student Zofia Popławska. For the first time in the history of the Not Only Slavic Song Contest and the “Melodies of Three Generations” concerts, dr Jakub Wilk from IDiKS will accompany as a pianist.
The invited band ZGRANIC, acclaimed by the jury and audience of May’s KPS as well as afterparty participants in the Botanical Garden, will perform their popular, energetic folk piece “Lipka”.
The second part of the concert will open with a duet from IFS, Martyna Dubińska and dr Jakub Walczak, who captivated the Wrocław audience years ago with their rendition of Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s “Shallow”. This time, the duo will pay tribute to the recently deceased, unforgettable Stanisław Soyka, performing his anthem of freedom and respect for others, “Tolerancja (Na miły Bóg)”.
Two UWr lecturers, Ajda Wyglądacz (SJPiKC) and Julianna Redlich (IFG), who previously performed a hit by the Polish band Sistars, “Sutra”, will now perform one of Zbigniew Wodecki’s most beautiful songs, “Rzuć wszystko to co złe”.
Alumna of Ukrainian Studies Monika Przymuszała, who won awards in a duo with her classmate Marcin Kluzek, will perform Natalia Kukulska’s “W biegu”.
Dr Justyna Salamon from IFR, known for her moving fado performances, will perform Dulce Pontes’ “Gaivota”, promising another emotional highlight of the concert.
Dr Igor Jelinek from Ostrava will sing a beautiful piece by Petr Hapka, “Na Hotelu v Olomouci”, and our exceptional vocalist Lyubov Moc will perform a beautiful Ukrainian waltz, “A zori, zori”.
Multiple KPS laureate, Russian and Czech Studies student Kamila Ogrodnik, together with friends, will close the second part of the concert with Helena Vondráčková’s greatest hit “Malovaný dzbanku”.
Audience favourites, Senior Rector prof. Adam Jezierski and prof. Jan Miodek, will conclude the final part of the “Melodies of Three Generations”. Their presence is an indispensable part of the concert.
The concert will be hosted by students from the Institute of Slavic Studies, Martyna Humięcka and Amadeusz Rozmus.
