The UWr main building in anniversary lights
One of the many attractions prepared by the University of Wrocław to mark the 80th anniversary of Polish scholarship in Wrocław was the illumination of the University’s main building in blue – the official UWr colour, known as the university azure.
The undertaking required extensive preparations, but the final effect more than rewarded all the effort involved. For two evenings and nights, 13 and 14 November, the structure of the main building glowed with blue light. The illumination not only highlighted the excellence of Polish scholarship in Wrocław, but also became a major attraction for residents and visiting tourists, who flocked to University Square to take commemorative photographs. The façade of the building, the Mathematical Tower and the Swordsman Fountain were all bathed in blue, complemented by moving anniversary UWr logos projected onto the walls of the building.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Social Communication Department of the Wrocław City Council for joining our initiative and illuminating the University Bridge for the occasion, which beautifully complemented the building’s illumination. Together, the two landmarks created a striking scene, clearly visible from afar and standing out against the city skyline. Our thanks also go to the Wrocław Road and City Maintenance Authority for all technical and formal support provided during the organisation of the event.
