The Historical Institute at the University of Wrocław warmly invites you to the next online lecture in the “Szewskie czwartki” series!
On 18 December at 6:00 p.m., a lecture titled “Silni, zwarci, gotowi? Społeczne aspekty przygotowań administracji do kampanii polskiej 1939” will be delivered by dr hab. Janusz Mierzwa, professor at the Jagiellonian University. The lecture will focus on the social and administrative dimensions of the Polish state’s preparations for the 1939 campaign—a key issue for understanding the condition of the Second Polish Republic on the eve of war.
Professor Janusz Mierzwa is a distinguished scholar from the Institute of History at the Jagiellonian University. His research concentrates primarily on the social, economic and political history of the Second Polish Republic, the history of the intelligentsia, and the history of state administration and local government. He is the author or co-author of numerous publications, including TSłownik biograficzny starostów Drugiej Rzeczypospolitej (2018–2022), Starostowie Polski międzywojennej. Portret zbiorowy (2018), Oblicza buntu społecznego w II RP doby wielkiego kryzysu (1930–1935) (2019), and Rzeczpospolita niedoskonała. Dokumenty do historii buntu społecznego w latach 1930–1935 (2019). He has been a laureate or nominee for the O. Halecki Award (2013), the K. Modzelewski Award (2020), and Polityka’s Historical Award in the “Wydawnictwo źródłowe” category (2020).
