New Catholic Academy in Wrocław
On 28 January 2026, the Pontifical Faculty of Theology celebrated the University’s historical Foundation Day, during which a new Catholic Academy was established. Rectors of Wrocław universities participated in the ceremony, including the Rector of the University of Wrocław prof. dr hab. Robert Olkiewicz.
The auditorium of the Pontifical Faculty of Theology held a ceremonial meeting of the University Senate, which was opened by its Rector, ks. prof. dr hab. Sławomir Stasiak. He greeted all the gathered guests, including government officials and representatives of local authorities and local communities. PFT Rector, since 1 September 2025, is the President of the College of Rectors of the Universities of Wrocław and Opole (KRUWiO).
One of the central moments of the celebration was the reading of the canonical decree establishing the Catholic Academy in Wrocław, which was officially passed to the ks. prof. Stasiak by the Archbishop Józef Kupny, the Metropolitan of Wrocław. This Act finalizes a long-term process of preparation and consultation, as PFT has been transformed into a modern university with a wide range of educational offerings.
During the celebration, the ceremonial handover of the Order of Polonia Restituta and the Golden Crosses of Merit took place. The ks. prof. Sławomir Stasiak was honored with the Order of Polonia Restituta. prof. Robert Olkiewicz, Rector of the University of Wrocław, and dr hab. Tadeusz Stefaniak, prof. AWF Wrocław, rector of Wrocław University of Health and Sport Sciences.
The honours were presented by the Advisor to the President of the Republic of Poland, Beata Kempa, acting on behalf of the President of the Republic of Poland, Karol Nawrocki. The celebration of the Foundation Day of the University was a wonderful opportunity to summarize the past accomplishments of the Pontifical Faculty of Theology and to invite the local and academic communities to shape the future of the Catholic Academy in Wrocław together — the higher education institution, which aims to combine the theological traditions with brand new fields of study and an interdisciplinary range of educational opportunities.
