The proceedings from the conference “Od edukacji językowej do integracji społecznej. Uczeń uchodźczy z Ukrainy w polskiej szkole”

On 22 November at the Institute of Polish Studies took place the conference “Od edukacji językowej do integracji społecznej. Uczeń uchodźczy z Ukrainy w polskiej szkole”. An event organized by dr hab. Anna Żurek, prof. UWr, head of the School of Polish Language and Culture for Foreigners, in cooperation with the Wrocław Teacher Development Centre and the Foundation for the Support of Polish Thought.

In the conference, the Dean of the Faculty of Letters, prof. Arkadiusz Lewicki, vice-head of the School, mgr Marta Gołębiowska, among others, like the Faculty and Doctoral Students of the University of Wrocław. Among the speakers at the conference were prof. Anna Majewska-Tworek from the Institute of Polish Studies, dr Marta Minkiewicz from the Institute of Romance Studies, dr Dorota Drużyłowska from the Institute of Slavic Studies, and mgr Katarzyna Grzybowska from the Faculty of Letters (Doctoral Studies at the Faculty of Letters). During the event, scientists from other universities gave their speeches, as did speech-language therapists, scholars of Polish philology, teachers, and language-teaching specialists, such as prof. Marzena Błasiak-Tytuła from the University of the National Education Commission in Kraków, dr Rafał Młyński from the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, mgr Edyta Krajewska (principal of the School and Kindergarten Complex no. 21 in Wrocław, mgr Oksana Matiienko (coordinator for Ukrainian students and preparatory classes at High School no. XV in Wrocław), and mgr Joanna Samp-Szulc (Polish Language and Culture Foundation Polija in Pomerania).

It was an interdisciplinary scientific conference targeting issues in language education, adaptation, and the social integration of Ukrainian refugee children in Polish schools. It was addressed to teachers, pre-service teachers, doctoral students of the Faculty of Letters, representatives of scientific societies of interest, among other institutions and organizations.

By disseminating the findings and recommendations, the conference aimed to leverage the training platform, created within the framework of the project „Integracja przez język” [“Integration through the language”], as a part of the program „Nauka dla Społeczeństwa” [“Science for the Society”], financed by the Ministry of Education and Science (agreement number: NdS/552155/2022/2022). The scientific debate was accompanied by methodical training in creating didactic resources for students from Ukraine attending Primary Schools in Poland, as well as a thematic session of scientific discussion.
