University of Wrocław expands its offer for candidates

A new interdisciplinary part-time (evening) Bachelor’s degree programme (first-cycle studies) – języki romańskie w komunikacji biznesowej (eng. Romance languages in business communication) – will launch this October. It will be delivered jointly by two faculties at the University of Wrocław. The programme has been developed by the Faculty of Languages, Literatures and Cultures and the Faculty of Law, Administration and Economics. It is assigned to two academic disciplines: linguistics (66%) and economics and finance (34%).

On 16 February, in the presence of the Rector of the University of Wrocław, professor Robert Olkiewicz, an interfaculty agreement establishing the new degree programme was signed by the Dean of the Faculty of Languages, Literatures and Cultures, professor Justyna Ziarkowska, and the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Administration and Economics, professor Jacek Przygodzki. The design of new degree programmes and the modification of existing ones are preceded by consultations with external stakeholder advisory boards, comprising representatives of the socio-economic environment, including alumni.

The aim of the programme is to educate graduates who combine an advanced command of a selected Romance language (French, Spanish or Italian) and intercultural competences with knowledge and practical skills in business. The course prepares students to operate effectively in both national and international business environments, particularly in cooperation with countries of the Romance-language sphere.

The curriculum integrates knowledge, skills and social competences in linguistics, intercultural communication and practical language proficiency with expertise in marketing, finance and commercial law. It also provides insight into the contemporary market environment, the principles governing the creation and development of various forms of entrepreneurship, the relationship between economics and business practice, and the legal framework for conducting business activity. Students will acquire fluent communication skills in their chosen Romance language, progressing from beginner level to independent user level (B2).

– The labour market and the expectations of graduates are changing very dynamically – said the Rector, Professor Robert Olkiewicz. – To ensure the best possible professional start for young people, the University continuously reviews and updates its educational offer.

– New degree programmes are a response to the University’s cooperation with the socio-economic environment – emphasised the Vice-Rector for Teaching, professor Łukasz Machaj.

It is worth recalling that in the past year several new degree programmes were launched at the University of Wrocław, including:

  • Sztuczna inteligencja w analizie danych
  • Klimatologia i ochrona atmosfery z elementami sztucznej inteligencji
  • Techniki eksperymentalne w kryminalistyce (the programme is also offered at two faculties: the Faculty of Chemistry and the Faculty of Biological Sciences)
  • Germanistyka stosowana, Master’s degree programme
  • Edukacja polonistyczna, Bachelor’s degree programme.
