The UWr Council – what is it and how was it formed?

Formation of the Council

University councils have been formed across the country in accordance with the Act on Higher Education and Science (Journal of Laws 2018, item 1668, as amended). The activities of the UWr Council are defined in the UWr Statute (Resolution No. 102/2019 of the UWr Senate). The Council, next to the rector and the senate, is the most important body of a public university. It is primarily advisory in nature. For further information on the tasks of the council – click here.

The university council is a body consisting of scholars of the university, individuals from outside the academic community representing the social and economic environment and a student representative. It includes 8 members appointed by the senate, at least 50% of whom are from outside the university community. The ninth member of the council is the chair of the student council.

The term of office of the council of a higher education institution shall be 4 years and shall commence on 1 January of the year following the year in which the term of office of the senate began. The same person may be a member of the council of a higher education institution for no more than 2 consecutive terms of office.
