Law of UWr among top 8 in moot court ranking
The Faculty of Law, Administration and Economics of the University of Wrocław has been ranked 8th in Poland in the latest Nica Law School Ranking 2021. This international ranking assesses law schools and university law faculties based on one criterion: participation in moot court competitions.
The ranking is created by the Nica.team– a consortium consisting of moot court enthusiasts, aiming to promote and disseminate this type of competitions.
And what exactly are moot courts? They are court tournaments for law students and graduates, whose participants take part in simulated court or arbitration proceedings. Moot courts are a key component of extra curricular activities at many law schools around the world. These competitions can vary in form and structure. While national moot court competitions focus on contract and criminal law, international tournaments deal with cross-border subjects such as EU law, public international law (including its sections: environmental law, space law and aviation law), international protection of human rights, international humanitarian law, international criminal law, international trade law, etc.
Moot courts are team competitions. International tournaments vary in rank and prestige, the more prominent ones, such as the Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, have several rounds.
The Nica ranking assigns scores to individual universities according to the importance of the tournaments they have participated in during the year and the places they have achieved. As many as 1,600 law faculties and law schools from around the world are ranked in the current ranking. Worldwide, the Faculty of Law, Administration and Economics of the University of Wrocław is ranked 662.
The latest edition of the Nica Law School Ranking includes 9 Polish universities: Warsaw University (1st place in Poland), Jagiellonian University (2nd place), University of Silesia (3rd place), University of Gdańsk and Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań (ex aequo 4th place), Kozminski University and Lazarski University (ex aequo 6th place), University of Wrocław and University of Lodz (ex aequo 8th place),
