Note suspicious activities

BE PREPARED:

NOTE SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITIES

In emergency situations, the police can activate additional patrols at various locations and maintain more frequent communication with local structures. Residents should increase their vigilance and inform the police of any suspicious behaviour in the area. Many people do not do this because they are not sure if what they have observed merits being reported. If in any doubt, call the police immediately. Don’t waste valuable time discussing it with friends or neighbours first.

If you suspect that a crime has been or may be committed, call 997 or 112. Do not panic or put yourself at risk. If behaviour seems simply suspicious, call the police number and describe it in detail. You do not have to give your name. However, if you would like to be contacted by a police officer, give your name, address and telephone number and ask the officer to contact you. Do not be afraid of anything. This information is confidential.

Here are the types of behaviour that, along with information about people, cars and circumstances that look unusual, you should report to the police:

  • someone looking into houses or cars,
  • the repeated presence of strange vehicles in the neighbourhood,
  • people tampering with electrical, gas, water or sewerage systems,
  • strange smells coming from and around houses and other buildings,
  • door-knockers with no ID, solicitors or any other person going door-to-door,
  • people suspiciously watching your neighbourhood.
