A new international order? [photo report]
On 24 and 25 November, the University of Wrocław is hosting the 11th National Convention of the Polish Society for International Studies entitled The New International Order? Below is a photo report from the conference.
The main theme of this year’s conference refers to the issue of changes in the structure and functioning of the contemporary international order. The immediate inspiration for these reflections is the aggression of the Russian Federation – a nuclear power which, through its aggression against Ukraine, has undermined the principles of order shaped after the Cold War in Europe.
Also under discussion are the changes in the international strategies of modern powers, with increasing recourse to arguments of force, the questioning of existing rules by states, international organisations and global corporations, and the weakness of the United Nations system, which is unable to effectively counter players who ignore the rules of international relations. There will be no shortage of discussions devoted to the topic of leadership in the international system. Academics will consider how the structure of the international system will evolve in the future, in particular, whether the leadership of the United States will be replaced by an arrangement in which China and the European Union will balance American influence, and how the position of NATO and the EU will evolve.
