Rector – prof. dr hab. Robert Olkiewicz
Polish physicist specialising in mathematical methods of physics, mathematical foundations of statistical models and open quantum systems; academic teacher associated with the University of Wrocław.
Born in 1962 in Wrocław. After successfully passing his matriculation exam in 1982, he took up physics studies at the University of Wrocław, which he completed with honours in 1987. He then continued his doctoral studies in mathematics at the Mathematical Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw. He received his doctoral degree in mathematics with a specialisation in application of mathematics in 1992. His doctoral thesis entitled “Mathematical constructions related to the Berri phase”, was supervised by Professor Arkadiusz Jadczyk. After his doctorate, he took up a position of assistant professor at his alma mater in the Institute of Theoretical Physics. In 1998, he received the award of the Minister of National Education for scientific achievements. In 2000, the Council of the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Wrocław awarded him the habilitation degree in physics with a specialisation in mathematical physics on the basis of his thesis entitled “Classical and quantum dynamical semigroups in the description of the evolution of physical systems”. Shortly thereafter, in 2004, he was awarded the post of associate professor, and four years later full professor. In the same year, he was awarded the title of Professor of Physical Sciences by the President of Poland. He held a research fellowship at Imperial College in London and was a fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation at Bielefeld University.
In addition to his research and teaching activities, he held a number of important organisational positions at his alma mater. In the years 2001-2005 he headed the Department of Mathematical Methods at the UWr Institute of Theoretical Physics, in the term 2005-2008 he was a director of this institute, and from 2008 to 2012 he was the Dean of the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy at UWr. He was the director and principal investigator of several grants from the Committee for Scientific Research, the organiser of two Winter Schools of Theoretical Physics, the 21st Max Born Symposium, and in 2011 the chairman of the organising committee of the “Asia – Europe Physics Summit”. In 2012, he was elected a Vice-Rector of the University of Wrocław for General Affairs, and in the 2016-2020 term a Director of Information Technology. Previously, he served as a Director of the Institute of Theoretical Physics.

Vice-Rector for Internationalisation – dr hab. Patrycja Matusz, prof. UWr
Associated with the University of Wrocław for most of her life. From 1996 to 2000, she studied Dutch Studies and German Studies. From 2016-2020, she served as Vice-Dean for Student Affairs and Development at Social Sciences Faculty of the UWr, and since 2020 she has been Vice-Rector for Projects and International Relations. Academically, she works on issues of international migration, migration management, integration of migrants and intercultural education; she leads two projects funded by Horizon 2020.
Thanks to Prof. Matusz’s efforts, the University of Wrocław is a member of the Arqus alliance and has strengthened cooperation with InclusU network partners. Prof. Matusz has also led to the signing of a letter of intent to cooperate with the Wrocław University of Science and Technology to work together on internationalisation.
On 6 March 2024, Minister of Science Dariusz Wieczorek appointed dr hab. Patrycja Matusz, prof. UWr, as Plenipotentiary of the Minister of Science for European Affairs and the Presidency of the Republic of Poland in the Council of the European Union.
Prof. Matusz also cooperates with the Council of Europe, the European Commission, local and regional government.

Vice-Rector for Teaching – dr hab. Łukasz Machaj, prof. UWr
Lawyer, since 2005 employee of the Chair of Political and Legal Doctrines at the Faculty of Law, Administration and Economics. His scientific interests focus primarily on analyses of how various philosophical, political, social or economic ideas are translated into specific legislative solutions. He is the author of nearly a hundred scientific publications, devoted in particular to the issues of freedom of speech, Polish political thought and constitutional justice in the United States. From 2016 to 2022, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Law, Administration and Economics for Educational Quality (from 2020 also for the Evaluation of the Quality of Academic Activities). Advocate of the traditional university model, combining academic excellence with quality education.
Privately a lover of sports, especially basketball (still a bit active!); avid reader and viewer of all kinds of detective stories and sensations; fan of music both good and a bit worse.

Vice-Rector for Student Affairs – dr Łukasz Prus
Doctor of law, attorney-at-law, trainer in the fields of, inter alia, anti-bullying, discrimination and legalisation of employment of foreigners.
His research interests are in comparative constitutional and administrative law, EU law, environmental law, animal rights, public assembly, mass events, local government, NGOs and equality procedures.
Author of scientific publications, devoted in particular to issues of fundamental rights and principles protecting the individual, EU administrative procedures, their specific forms such as composite procedures and judicial control of the EU administration.
He has twice served as Ombudsman for Equal Treatment and Anti-Discrimination at the UWr. He has also performed the duties of the UWr Rector’s representative for safety, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Administration and Economics‘ representative for the safety of Students and Doctoral Students and the Director of the Institute of Administrative Sciences’ representative for hospitality.
Head of postgraduate studies in the field of employment of foreigners, among other things responsible for the organisation of studies funded by Norwegian grants.
He has performed expert functions for public administration bodies and non-governmental organisations in the fields of employment of foreigners, access to public information and prevention of illegal landfills.
His motto for this term of office is: ‘Students and doctoral students are the future of the UWr’, and this requires:
– strengthening the support system for their activity, removing formal barriers to student and doctoral initiatives;
– creating a space for dialogue and integration of the student and doctoral community;
– developing the infrastructure of student residences;
– improving social security, acquiring new sources of scholarships, taking full advantage of the opportunities of the Arqus European University Alliance and European and national funds;
– developing psychological support institutions, a safety system and equal treatment.

Vice-Rector for Research – prof. dr hab. Artur Błażejewski
Born in 1967, graduate of the XIIIth Secondary School in Wrocław. In 1986-1991 studied archaeology at the University of Wrocław. In 1989-1991 he was a technical worker at the Archaeological Expedition of the University of Wrocław in Novae (Bulgaria).
From 1991 to 1995, he was a doctoral student at the Silesian Studies Doctoral Programme of the University of Wrocław, and defended his doctoral thesis entitled ” A funeral rite of the Przeworsk Culture in Silesia”, written under the supervision of Prof. Stanisław Pazda, in 1996. From 1995 to 1996, he was an assistant at the Archaeological Department of the Regional Museum in Środa Śląska. From 1996 he was assistant professor at the Institute of Archaeology of the University of Wrocław. In 2000 he was a guest professor at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in Paris (Marseille Branch). Habilitated in 2007 on the basis of his dissertation “Przeworsk culture and the Rhine-Weser cultural zone”, he has been working as a professor at the University of Wrocław since 2010.
He is the supervisor of about 60 bachelor’s theses, 70 master’s theses and 5 doctoral theses; author and co-author of 120 scientific papers, including 5 books, published nationally and internationally. From 2012 to 2016 he was Director of the Institute of Archaeology at UWr, since 2016 he has been a senator of UWr, since 2020 he has been Dean of the Faculty of Historical and Pedagogical Sciences. Since 2014 he has been a corresponding member of the Deutsches Archäologisches Institut. He is also vice-president of the General Board of the Scientific Association of Polish Archaeologists.

Vice-Rector for Finance and Development – dr hab. Arkadiusz Lewicki, prof. UWr
Graduate of Polish Studies at the University of Wrocław, film and media scholar affiliated with the Institute of Journalism and Social Communication. Author of books on film postmodernism, eroticism in the cinema of the first decades and seriality in popular culture, co-editor of 12 multi-author monographs and author of more than 80 articles on cinema, media and (not only) popular culture.
In the term 2020-2024, Dean of the Faculty of Letters. President of the Polish Society for Film and Media Studies, member of two Committees of the Polish Academy of Sciences (Committee for Art and Committee for Social Communication and Media Sciences). Privately – husband and father of two now grown-ups, thirty-something active sportsman who occasionally tries to return to playing basketball, admirer of first-rate secondary literature.
