Another success of FLAE UWr in the Dziennik Gazeta Prawna ranking

The Faculty of Law, Administration and Economics of the UWr once again took second place in the 17th Ranking of Law Faculties of Dziennik Gazeta Prawna, published today. Last year, we shared second place ex aequo with the University of Warsaw, but this time we managed to overtake it. Jagiellonian University came first.

The strong competition among the ranking leaders is evidenced by the small difference in scores among the top three. The ranking leader, Jagiellonian University, scored 102.2 points, ahead of UWr (99.4 points) by just 2.8 points. The University of Warsaw scored 98.15 points.

The success of FLAE UWr is all the more pleasing because in the ranking, which is the oldest of its kind in Poland, law faculties were assessed on the basis of a wide variety of indicators in four categories: staff, requirements for students and the quality of graduates, pass rates for legal applications, and the quality and strength of education.

In the category of staff, in which a maximum of 29 points could be scored, the following were assessed: number of students per researcher (max. 6 points), number of scientific publications (books) by faculty members in relation to the number of faculty members (max. 4 points), number of research grants received by faculty or it’s members (max. 3.5 points), number of scientific publications of faculty members included in the Scopus database in relation to the number of faculty members (max. 2 points), number of professorships achieved by faculty members (max. 4 points), or participation of faculty members in chief state bodies, local authorities or professional corporations (max. 2 points).

As many as 20 indicators were taken into account when examining the quality and conditions of education. In this category, universities were able to gain the most points, 45.5 points. The highest scoring indicators were: the possibility of conferring a postdoctoral degree (max. 7 points), the possibility of conferring a doctoral degree (max. 5 points), the functioning of a foreign law school (max. 3 points), the functioning of a law clinic (max. 2 points), number of international full-time and online conferences organised by the faculty (max. 3.5 points), number of computer stations with LEX or equivalent software per 100 law students (max. 3 points), honours and external awards obtained by the faculty, its staff and students (max. 2.5 points).

In the category of requirements for students and the quality of graduates (32.5 points), points were awarded for e.g. current academic category (max. 4 points), current assessment by the Polish Accreditation Committee (max. 3 points), professional careers of graduates on the basis of the national system for monitoring the economic fate of higher education graduates (max. 4 points), obligation to pass a foreign language exam (max. 3.5 points), number of compulsory subjects completed with an exam (max. 2.5 points) and participation of graduates in chief state bodies, local authorities or professional corporations (max. 2 points).

In the category of pass rate for legal applications, a maximum of 10 points could be scored. The pass rate for legal applications counted, but scoring was dependent on the number of graduates.
