Another “Szewski czwartek” ahead
The Historical Institute at the University of Wrocław invites you to the next online meeting in the “Szewski czwartek” series, to be held on 27 November at 6:00 p.m. Dr hab. Krzysztof Fokt from the Centre for Source Publications at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the Jagiellonian University, will deliver a lecture entitled: „Wolni, niewolni, półwolni? O statusie chłopów w monarchii wczesnopiastowskiej”. The language of instruction is Polish.
At a time when simplifications and myths about medieval peasants are widespread, it is worth returning to sources and rigorous scholarly reflection. The event offers an excellent opportunity to look at the society of the early Piasts through the eyes of a respected researcher and to restore the complexity that the historical reality deserves. Dr hab. Krzysztof Fokt is a historian and archaeologist whose research focuses on the pre-modern countryside and settlement patterns, the constitutional history of Central European states in the 10th–14th centuries, as well as the earliest history of Upper Lusatia and Silesia.
