Meeting of the EarlyMuse Project in Wrocław!

We are pleased to announce the upcoming meeting of the “A new ecosystem of early music studies (EarlyMuse)” project, which will take place at the Institute of Musicology of the University of Wrocław! This project is part of the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST), an organization that funds the creation of research networks known as “COST Actions”. These research networks provide an open space for collaboration among scientists across Europe and beyond, promoting research and innovation.

About the Silesian godka and the Kashubian Language in lectures at the College for Interdisciplinary Studies

The BEYOND LANGUAGE course conducted in the College for Interdisciplinary Studies (KMSI) of the University of Wrocław in collaboration with the Faculty of Letters of the University of Wrocław and the Committee for Philology of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Wrocław Branch. The integral part of the course are guest presentations by scientists conducting their own research and representing various research disciplines and different areas of knowledge. The lectures are open to the public, everyone interested is welcome.

A few words about Czech literature… A meeting with prof. Wojciech Soliński

The course is conducted in collaboration with the Institute of English Studies at the University of Wrocław, the College for the Interdisciplinary Studies, and the Committee for Philology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (Wrocław Branch). The course concludes with the opportunity for participants to present their research ideas to a wider audience at the recurring international scientific conference organized by the College of the Interdisciplinary Studies, titled BEYOND LANGUAGE.

Little Essen: A Polish-German Place of (Non-)Memory. Exhibition of Photographs by prof. Krzysztof Ruchniewicz

On May 24th, the opening of the photo exhibition titled “Little Essen: A Polish-German Place of (Non-)Memory” by Prof. Krzysztof Ruchniewicz will take place at the Ravensbrück Memorial Site. The pretext for organizing the exhibition is the meeting of the Polish-German Textbook Commission, established under the auspices of the UNESCO commissions in Poland and Germany in 1972. The organizers of the exhibition are: the Leibniz Institute for Educational Media, the Georg Eckert Institute, the Willy Brandt Center for German and European Studies at the University of Wrocław, the University of Wrocław itself, and DAAD.

The history of script and manuscript books at the BEYOND LANGUAGE workshop at the MSI College

Thursday, 25 April 2024, marked the end of a series of workshops on the origins of the manuscript book and writing offered to students as part of the BEYOND LANGUAGE course. During the first two meetings, mgr Dawid Kuriański and dr Adam Poznański from the Manuscripts Department of the University Library in Wrocław, introduced the students of the MSI College to the fascinating origins and dynamic changes in writing over the past centuries. Writing itself, and even more so the written and printed book, are groundbreaking, albeit relatively ‘new’ inventions in the history of cultural and linguistic development.

The 21st edition of Millennium Docs Against Gravity at DCF from the 10th of May!

Another edition of Millennium Docs Against Gravity is coming! The Wrocław edition of the festival will last from the 10th to the 19th of May. At Lower Silesian Film Centre (Dolnośląskie Centrum Filmowe; DCF), we will present over seventy documentaries from all over the world. Unforgettable cinematic journeys will traditionally be accompanied by meetings with creators and protagonists and debates regarding important topics presented on the screen.

Lemkos, who are they?

Lemkos are a national minority whose origins date back to the period between the 14th and the first half of the 16th century. They lived in the Lemko Region, an area situated between Polish and Slovakian ethnic territory. The region included Beskid Sądecki, Beskid Niski, and fragments of Bieszczady Mountains. These individuals are part of the Slavic nations and have Byzantine origin in their faith. They have their own language, writing, culture, and customs. For a few hundred years, they were themselves, Rusyn–Lemkos.
