Award Accompanying Viadrina Prize for a Polish-German project

We are pleased to announce that the project ‘Literaturübersetzung im deutsch-polnischen Kulturdialog’ (Literary Translation in Polish-German Cultural Dialogue project) executed by Karl Dedecius Stiftung der Europa-Universität Viadrina has been recognised and appreciated by the Board of Trustees of the Viadrina Prize Foundation. The project was awarded the Award Accompanying the 22. Viridiana Prize (which was awarded to Professor Krzysztof Ruchniewicz from the University of Wrocław).

The partner of this project is the Institute of German Studies.

The last workshops titled ‘Zbigniew Herbert und die Rezeption seiner Texte’ (‘Zbigniew Herbert and the reception of his work’) took place in May 2022 in Frankfurt (Odra) and Słubice. The workshops were attended by students and their tutors from four German and four Polish universities. The workshops were preceded by tandem seminars, during which students from the Institute of German Studies together with students from the Institute of Polish Studies at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich worked out issues related to the themes of the ‘Warsztat poety’ (‘Poet’ Workshop’), based on the correspondence between Karl Dedecius and Zbigniew Herbert, the Polish poet’s poetry and its translations, as well as texts of literary criticism. In addition to that, students made translations of the correspondence between the translator and the poet.

More information about the project and the workshops can be found here.

The supervisor of the scientific project is dr hab. Anna Małgorzewicz, professor of the University of Wrocław, on behalf of the Institute of German Studies.

Translated by Martyna Szmyt (student of English Studies at the University of Wrocław) as part of the translation practice.

The project “Integrated Program for the Development of the University of Wrocław 2018-2022” co-financed by the European Union from the European Social Fund
