Researcher from the Faculty of Biological Sciences with a research grant

Dr Paulina Tomaszewska for her project entitled „Zrównoważone zarządzanie zasobami naturalnymi: sekwencjonowanie i narzędzia cytogenetyki molekularnej w celu wykorzystania bioróżnorodności tropikalnych traw pastewnych”received funding (PLN 49,280) under Miniatura 7 from the National Science Centre.

Dr Paulina Tomaszewska works at the Faculty of Biological Sciences of the University of Wrocław in the Department of Genetics and Cell Physiology headed by prof. dr hab. Robert Wysocki. She carries out her research in close collaboration with prof. Pat Heslop-Harrison from the University of Leicester in the UK. As part of this project, I will be conducting research on African grasses of the genus Urochloa, which were imported to South America in the 1980s and today form an important part of agricultural systems in Colombia and Brazil, says our researcher. As part of the project, I plan to travel to the University of Leicester to study the genome structure of these tropical forage grasses.

The research will use sequencing and bioinformatics and molecular cytogenetics tools to understand the evolutionary divergence of the genomes of species in the genus Urochloa and the nature of their biodiversity. The knowledge generated during the project will help to develop better forage plants for sustainable agriculture in the future.

Congratulations to our researcher and good luck! Who else received a Miniatura 7? Read here!
