Blood donation appeal
The prof. dr hab. Tadeusz Dorobisz Regional Centre for Blood Donation and Haemotherapy in Wrocław, Czerwonego Krzyża 5/9, is appealing to all healthy citizens of Wrocław and Lower Silesia to donate blood and blood components at the RCKiK in Wrocław, the local branches in Głogów, Legnica and Lubin, as well as at campaign events.
At the moment, the centre particularly looks for donors with blood types O Rh-, A Rh- and O Rh+, due to the high demand for these blood types.
When registering to donate blood, it is important to bring a document with a photo that allows identification (identity card, passport, driving licence). A donor can be a person between the ages of 18 and 60 (if they have never donated blood) or 65 (if they have previously donated blood) who is in generally good health. Before donating blood, you should be well rested and have drunk at least 2 litres of liquids in the day before donating blood. On the day of donation you should have a light meal and be very well hydrated (water, juices, tea). You are not allowed to drink alcohol 24 hours before donating blood.
For more information – how to prepare for blood donation, where and when blood and blood components can be donated – visit the RCKiK website.
It takes approximately eight minutes to donate whole blood (450 ml) – yet it saves another person’s life.
