On 8 May – Librarian’s Day and the beginning of Library Week – the second edition of the Obiegówka game organised by the specialist libraries of the University of Wrocław will begin. This year, the University Library is also joining as a co-organiser!

Millennium Docs Against Gravity, a 10-day celebration of documentary cinema, is fast approaching. Between May 9 and 18, more than seventy documentaries from around the world will be presented at the DCF Cinema. These unforgettable cinematic journeys will be accompanied by meetings with filmmakers, heroes and heroines, as well as other accompanying events.

The sculpture of the gorilla Pussi, the projector head made for the Luftwaffe, professor Rospond’s flashcards, professor Teisseyre’s notes from Lviv, and a 19th-century sewerage map from 1879 are just some of the objects featured in the exhibition “Rzeczy Mówią. Uniwersyteckie historie opowiedziane przedmiotami” (eng. Objects That Speak: University stories told through things), which has been viewed by 69,000 visitors at the University of Wrocław Museum since July 2024.

On behalf of the Scholarly and Organizing Committee, we are delighted to announce that this year’s BEYOND LANGUAGE International Conference for Young Scholars will be hosted at five esteemed universities across Europe from May 14th to June 12th.

On 24–25 April, the IDUB Project Office at the University of Wrocław hosted the 4th Conference of IDUB Implementation Teams, aimed at programme managers and implementation teams.

On 7 May 2025 at 10:15, the Institute of English Studies at the University of Wrocław will host an open lecture organised as part of the IDUB programme. The lecture, entitled “Malinowski and the Eternal Return of the Speaker”, will be delivered by Professor John E. Joseph (University of Edinburgh, Scotland).

The Student Scientific Accociation of Russian Studies “WroSlawianie”, “Ljudi” Student Scientific Association, the Department of Russian Literature and Culture (Institute of Slavic Studies UWr), and the Department of Practical Russian Language Studies (Institute of Slavic Studies UWr) invite you to the 9th National One Novel Competition on 30 April 2025, featuring “The Tower of Fools” by Andrzej Sapkowski (under the honorary patronage of the Dean of the Faculty of Languages, Cultures and Literatures).

If you haven’t yet decided how to spend your May Day weekend, we warmly invite you to visit the University of Wrocław Botanical Garden and the Arboretum in Wojsławice.
The Botanical Garden is currently at its springtime best. Although the Tulip Festival was officially scheduled for April 26, the tulips are still in full bloom and will remain a spectacular sight until at least May 4.

At first glance, a thick blanket of snow may seem uninviting for a beetle. Carabus variolosus is different. This beetle is the variegated ground beetle, which thrives in areas where snow lingers. Snow cover is a crucial factor influencing the population size of this species.
