27 researchers from the UWr will receive a total of more than PLN 40 million to conduct their projects as part of the OPUS 26 and SONATA 19 competitions from the National Science Centre. They include four scientists from the Faculty of Historical and Pedagogical Sciences.

The Wrocław Workshop of Geology is an educational project conducted at the Institute of Geological Sciences since 2020, which includes the organization of optional field practice and classes supplementing the educational content of geological studies. The main assumption of these classes is to organize them not only outside the University, but also outside Lower Silesia and the Sudetes, where field practices are usually held. This means that each edition of the workshop takes place in a different location, allowing teaching activities to also take place in regions that are less obvious in terms of geology. Two editions of the workshop are held each academic year, and the latest, the seventh edition, was held in Saxony and organized by dr Piotr Wojtulek. The workshop provided an opportunity for our scientists and students to meet with staff from friendly institutions in the field of geology in Saxony, especially from the oldest university of mining sciences in the world – Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg. The event happened to occur at this year’s 25th anniversary of cross-border cooperation between Lower Silesia and Saxony and was supported by co-financing of teaching initiatives by the Vice-Rector for teaching of the University of Wrocław.

We announce with deep sadness that prof. dr hab. Gerard Koziełek (in fact, Gerhard Kosellek), born in Racibórz (Ratbior) on 5 March 1928, passed away on 24 May 2024 in Krefeld, in the age of 96.

27 researchers from our University will receive a total of more than PLN 40.5 million for the implementation of projects in the recently concluded OPUS26 and SONATA19 competitions of the National Science Centre.

European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) chose 60 new Actions, which will be granted with a four-year funding for creating and managing international research networks. Among chosen projects there is only one Action from Poland, submitted by prof. Michał Jacuński from the Institute of Political Science, University of Wrocław.

The fourth edition of the international conference of young researchers BEYOND LANGUAGE 2024 is already a thing of the past. This year, speakers from Israel, Romania, Ukraine, Dresden, Ireland, Wrocław, Poznań, Kraków, Olsztyn, Gdańsk and Warsaw met for four days in May at the Jagiellonian University (UJ), the University of Wrocław (UWr), Adam Mickiewicz University (UAM) and online to discuss, among other things: humor, Chinese novels, Georgian verbs, Dongba symbols, the language of poetry, the etymology of words, map grammar, mythical heroes, Homeric comparisons, syncretic cultural forms, interference of worlds and melic translation.

On Saturday 25 May, the final round of Potyczki Algorytmiczne 2024, the largest and most important nationwide individual programming competition, ended in Zielona Góra. The winner was our student Łukasz Pluta!
