On Friday, 18 October, the First University Conference “Artificial Intelligence ∀” was held at the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science. It brought together nearly 200 participants interested in research and other activities related to artificial intelligence at the University of Wrocław.

The group of scientists honored as part of the Polityka Science Awards already includes 392 people, who have received awards worth a total of more than PLN 7 million. This group expanded last month, when the Professorial Chapter selected fifteen finalists for this year’s edition. Among them, dr Ewa Górska (Faculty of Law, Administration and Economics, Academic Excellence Incubator – Digital Justice Center UWr).

Ladies and gentlemen, Dear Colleagues, in the last days of October- as in the previous years – the University Committee for the Care of Graves of the University of Wrocław Deserved Members will organise the “Academic Memorial Candle”. Its aim is to cultivate the memory of the deceased professors and other distinguished members of our university community and to take care of their graves in the cemeteries around Wrocław. For this purpose, we will clean together their graves, put flowers and light the candles.

The 2024/2025 academic year also began with the UWr University of the Third Age students. In the presence of the Vice-Rector for student affairs of the University of Wrocław, dr Łukasz Prus, representatives of the authorities of the City of Wrocław, senior organisations, friendly institutions, the banner of the University of Wrocław were introduced for the first time in the history of the University of the Third Age at the opening ceremony of the new academic year. The time has come to summarise the conference “Social Boundaries of Work. Critical Labour Studies in the Times of a Polycrisis,” held at the Institute of Sociology from 16 to 18 October 2024.

The Free Belarusian University is continuing enrollment in the course “Narodziny białoruskiego Lewiatana. Dlaczego demokracja parlamentarna przekształciła się w dyktaturę personalistyczną (grudzień 1991 – listopad 1996)?”, which allows participants to expand their knowledge, gain analytical skills and competence in the history of Belarus from the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s, related to the attainment of sovereignty and the country’s subsequent transition to authoritarian rule.

An interview with dr Ewa Górska from the Faculty of Law, Administration and Economics of the University of Wrocław nominated for the ”Polityka” award. Since 2001, the ”Polityka” Weekly Foundation offers a scholarship program “Stay with Us!” addressed to young researchers – since 2011 under the name of Science Awards. The Department of Applied Linguistics of the UWr Institute of German Studies invites you to two open masterclasses as part of the IDUB UWr guest professorship. Our guest will be Prof. Dr. Heinz-Helmut Lüger of Koblenz University.

The journal Comptes Rendus Paleovol published an article co-authored by dr hab. Adrian Marciszak, professor of University of Wrocław, from the Faculty of Biological Sciences of the University of Wrocław, on the analysis of the rich paleozoological material of mustelids from the well-known, Bavarian site in Hunas. The text is also co-authored by dr Brigitte Hilpert and dr Dieta Ambros from the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nürnberg in Germany.
