    We are pleased to announce that the project “Magic Bullet Gels: Unleashing Antimicrobial Peptide Metal Complexes”, led by professor Magdalena Rowińska-Żyrek from the Faculty of Chemistry, has been awarded funding through the MAPS (Multilateral Academic Projects) programme. The competition is organized by the Swiss National Science Foundation as part of Swiss-European scientific cooperation.

    The Landscape Research Laboratory of the Institute of Geography and Regional Development cordially invites you to a guest lecture, which will take place on Monday, May 12, at 9:30 a.m. in Room 332 of the Institute of Geography and Regional Development, Plac Uniwersytecki 1. The lecture, titled “Rural Transformation and Revitalization in China”, will be delivered by prof. Yuheng Li, a world-renowned rural geographer from the Institute of Geographical Sciences and Natural Resources Research at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The presentation will explore contemporary processes of rural transformation in China and will be followed by an open discussion and opportunity for exchange of insights and experiences.

    The Institute of Polish Studies and the Society of Friends of Polish Studies in Wrocław invite you to the Meetings at ‘Nehring’ room – popular science lectures on Polish studies in the 2024/2025 academic year. On 18 May (Sunday) at 11:00-12:00, dr Karolina Chyła will give a lecture entitled ‘Błędny rycerz w wielkim mieście, czyli “Walka z szatanem” Stefana Żeromskiego’ in the Nehring Hall, in the reading room on the ground floor of the Institute of Polish Studies (pl. Nankiera 15b). Admission is free.

    In one of the most prestigious journals in the world specializing in the medicinal chemistry and discovering pharmaceuticals, The Journal of Medicinal Chemistry (ACS), a publication appeared which describes the discovery of nanobodies blocking galectine-7 and of which the co-authors are dr Natalia Porębska and prof. dr hab. Łukasz Opaliński from the Department of Medical Biotechnology. The publication came into being in cooperation with the prof. Yves St Pierre team from INRS Quebec, Canada.

    Polish scientists, including researchers from the University of Wrocław, have investigated how climate change is reshaping the Arctic water cycle. The results of their analysis can be used to develop strategies to minimize the risks associated with extreme hydrological events in the polar and alpine regions.

    The sculpture of the gorilla Pussi, the projector head made for the Luftwaffe, professor Rospond’s flashcards, professor Teisseyre’s notes from Lviv, and a 19th-century sewerage map from 1879 are just some of the objects featured in the exhibition “Rzeczy Mówią. Uniwersyteckie historie opowiedziane przedmiotami” (eng. Objects That Speak: University stories told through things), which has been viewed by 69,000 visitors at the University of Wrocław Museum since July 2024.
