    Climate change is widely perceived as a negative phenomenon. The sudden, heavy rains and violent floods recently seen in various regions of Europe, the melting of ice caps or the rise of sea levels are just a few of its effects. However, climate change can also facilitate the movement of plants into new geographical regions, where due to the change of conditions they can find new, suitable habitats.

    On Tuesday, 30 October, a two-hour debate dedicated to the current situation in the Middle East took place in W. Świda’s hall at the Faculty of Law, Administration and Economics. The participants were University of Wrocław’s experts: dr Jagoda Budzik, dr Ewa Górska, dr hab. Barbara Kowalczyk, prof. Jarosław Jarząbek and dr Paweł Wróblewski. The conversation, which focused on the genesis and circumstances of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, was moderated by prof. Patrycja Matusz, Vice-Rector for internationalisation.

    Polish Minister of Culture and National Heritage Hanna Wróblewska appointed professor Krzysztof Ruchniewicz as director of Witold Pilecki’s Institute of Solidarity and Courage.  His five-year term in office starts on 5 November 2024. Dr Wojciech Kozłowski, who had been the acting director of the Institute, will assume the position of vice-director.

    Elections to the regulatory bodies of the University of Wrocław Student Self-Government for the 2024-2026 term were held on 17-18 October.

    Jakub Stachurka, a fourth-year student at the UWr College for Interdisciplinary Individual Studies, has joined the ranks of Sur-Place Scholarship (Sur Place Stipendium) laureates. The Scholarship is awarded by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.

    Durham University joins Arqus

    In 2024, the University of Wrocław received a prestigious grant as part of the international DUT call 2022 competition, announced under the co-financed partnership Horyzont Europa Driving Urban Transitions. This initiative involves 27 European countries, including Poland. The competition aims to support international research projects addressing the challenges faced by modern cities.
