On Thursday, 27 February 2025, prof. Robert Olkiewicz, rector of the University of Wrocław, received a delegation from the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence, led by prof. Erik Jones, director of the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Research within the EUI. The meeting was also attended by Joanna Wielgo, manager of EUI-funded projects, and, on the UWr side, dr Łukasz Prus, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs; prof Magdalena Ratajczak, dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences; prof. Piotr Sula, vice-dean for internationalisation of the Faculty of Social Sciences; Urszula Broda, head of the International Office; and Tomasz Woźniakowski, assistant professor at the Institute of Political Science, local coordinator of the event.
Apart from the opportunity to pass a physical education subject, sports sections also fulfil the need for active leisure time and greater integration in the academic community. Every student at the University of Wrocław can develop their sporting passions in them.

It is a recognition of the laureate’s achievements, which have left a measurable and recognisable contribution to science. In their research on the biological role of the seed mucus coat, dr hab. Agnieszka Kreitschitz from the Department of Plant Development Biology at the University of Wrocław and prof. Stanislav Gorb from the
University of Kiel (Germany), saw for the first time the exact structure of the mucus at the nanoscale and tested the hypothesis, which had been repeated for years, of the supporting role of mucus in the spread of seeds eaten by animals. Seed mucus as a natural hydrogel is used, among other things, in the food and pharmaceutical industries as well as in bioengineering and medicine.
Recent research has focused on Gaia22dkvLb, a newly discovered exoplanet found through microlensing by an international team of scientists, of which mgr Przemysław Mikołajczyk from the Atronomical Institute at the University of Wrocław, is a member. The exoplanet Gaia22dkvLb can also be observed using the radial velocity measurement technique – something rarely achievable for these microlensing worlds.
The results of evaluation based on the current principles will not reflect the actual state of science in Poland – assessed the members of the Conference of Rectors of Universities in Poland (KRUP) in their position paper adopted two days ago.
