On 3–4 December 2025, representatives of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Wrocław – dr hab. Bartosz Smolik, Paweł Skorb and Damian Wochnik – took part in the Lower Silesian Innovation Forum. The event focused on innovations in space technologies and defence.

At the beginning of 2026, the University of Wrocław strengthened its commitment to developing Polish–Ukrainian relations. Pursuant to Rector’s Ordinance No. 232/2025, the Wrocław University Center for Polish-Ukrainian Cooperation was established – a new university-wide unit whose mission is to develop academic and research cooperation with Ukraine, strengthen the position of UWr as a leading centre for Ukrainian studies, and support the rebuilding of the teaching potential of Ukrainian higher education institutions. We talk about the Center’s first activities with its Director, prof. dr hab. Agnieszka Matusiak-Bakuła.

The Academic Career Office, together with the Student Admissions Office, is proud to present a new video-podcast series, “UWr Talks: To be continued”. This unique series features conversations with alumnae and alumni of the University of Wrocław—now established professionals—who share the stories of their career paths, their experiences as students, and practical advice for current and prospective UWr students.

The creation of virtual archaeological trails available in the Archaeotrail app will be undertaken by researchers and students from the University of Wrocław. The Institute of Archaeology at UWr is participating in the Erasmus+ SHARITAGE project – Digital Engagement of Local Communities in European Cultural Heritage.

Dr hab. Alicja Krzemińska from the Institute of Geography and Regional Development at the University of Wrocław undertook a study visit to Peru as part of the University of Wrocław’s academic, teaching and social activities.

WrocDocSoc is a new initiative bringing together the Doctoral Schools of nine public universities in our city. We are creating a shared space for cooperation, the exchange of experience, and the promotion of early-career researchers.

On 20–22 May 2026, an international interdisciplinary academic conference devoted to current political, social, legal and cultural transformations in Central and Eastern Europe will be held in Wrocław. The conference will address these issues in the context of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and Ukraine’s integration process with the European Union. The event is organised by the Wrocław University Center for Polish-Ukrainian Cooperation and the Faculty of Languages, Cultures and Literatures in cooperation with other faculties of the University of Wrocław as well as numerous national and international partners. The conference will be held under the honorary patronage of the Marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship and the Mayor of Wrocław.

On Friday, 16 January 2026, the 15th edition of the nationwide “Biologists’ Night” event will take place under the slogan: „Biologia pełna sygnałów – odkryj jak mówi życie”.

The 56th meeting of the Jury of the Honorary Awards “Rejs Roku – Srebrny Sekstant” (eng. “Voyage of the Year – Silver Sextant”) took place at the Polish Navy Museum in Gdynia at the end of December. The Jury faced a difficult decision and, although it resolved not to award the main prize, it granted several equivalent awards, including one in the category “maritime education and the promotion of offshore sailing” to a project involving our scientists.

An article entitled “500-year paleoclimate record inferred from Greenland juniper wood contextualizes current climate warming” has been published in the journal Nature Communications (IF = 15.7; 200 points on the Polish Ministry ranking list). One of its co-authors is prof dr hab. Piotr Owczarek from the Department of Physical Geography at the University of Wrocław.

Our university currently has 14 scholarship holders – outstanding young researchers. Our academics have secured several dozen new research grants. We also have winners of prestigious competitions and polls. We wish the entire academic community an equally successful 2026!
