    Aid grants for students affected by the flood

    Prof. Krzysztof Ruchniewicz, a member of the Historical Institute and Director of the Willy Brandt Centre for German and European Studies, was nominated on 19 September by the Deputy Minister Marek Prawda as a member of the Committee for the ‘Award for Special Services to the Development of Polish-German Relations’.

    More than 30 valuable archaeological sites, previously unknown cave paintings, fragments of pottery and stone tools have been identified by Polish archaeologists in Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park. This is the first Polish research at the site.

    For the past week, nothing has been more important than securing the University against flooding. I set up an emergency team on Monday to monitor the situation in all the facilities of our University. The buildings are secured and placed under constant surveillance by University Services.

    The University of Wrocław community has been preparing solidly for the arrival of the flood wave in recent days. Although we are full of optimism and hope that major damage will be avoided, we have taken the precaution of securing university buildings and property so that the impact of the wave will be as small as possible.

    The situation on the Odra River is very dynamic. In view of the threat, the Rector of the University of Wrocław set up a crisis team on 16 September 2024, which monitors the situation on an ongoing basis and liaises with the Crisis Management Centres of public administration bodies.
