Space-time symmetries are a key component of fundamental physical theories, such as classical and quantum electrodynamics, or general relativity theory (classical gravitational field theory). The most fundamental of these are described by the Lorentz group (for a non-zero cosmological constant this generalises to the de Sitter or anti-de Sitter group), preserving the value of the speed of light c. On the other hand, if we consider the so-called Galilean limit, in which c goes to infinity, we reduce the theory in question to classical Newtonian physics, where time is absolute.

322 scientists whose projects were on waiting lists in the OPUS 25, PRELUDIUM 22, MAESTRO 15 and SONATA BIS 13 calls received funding decisions on June 7, 2024. Thus, the group of winners of these competitions increased from 452 to 774 researchers.

Faculty of Law, Administration and Economics of the University of Wrocław invites to the registration for the postgraduate studies, ‘Transformacja energetyczno-klimatyczna. Prawo odnawialnych źródeł energii’ (eng. Energetic-climatic transformation. The law of the renewable energy sources) in the academic year 2024/2025.

In the Oratorium Marianum, those honoured with the ‘’Wrocław Freedom’’ badge gathered on Wednesday, 5 June, but above all friends and acquaintances from the years when a free Poland was fought for.

The history of printing is a fascinating story about the evolution of human communication, which impacted the development of our civilization. The print was invented in China by Bi Sheng around 1040 A.D. Bi Sheng used clay types that were movable and could be used multiple times. The method gradually evolved. Later, wood and metal was used to produce durable and easier to modify types. The technique spread in Korea, where the first metal typeface was invented in 1234. In Korea, in the 15th century, “Jikji” was printed. It is perceived as the oldest book printed with the use of movable metal types, that proceeded the Gutenberg Bible.

Twenty seven researchers from the UWr will be granted with PLN 40 million to realize their own projects as a result of the OPUS 26 and SONATA 19 Projects of the National Science Centre. Scholars from the Faculty of Biotechnology and the Faculty of Biological Sciences are among those, who have received grants.
