UL: Cooperation
The jubilee, 20th Polish-Belarusian Scientific and Practical Round Table, titled “Kształtowanie społeczeństwa obywatelskiego na Białorusi a polskie doświadczenia transformacyjne” (eng. “The Relation between Shaping the Civil Society of Belarus and Polish Experiences with Democratic Transformation”), will take place on Friday, November 3. The event will be held at 9 a.m. at the University of Wrocław’s Institute of International and Security Studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences located at ul. Koszarowa 3, room 114. The co-organisers of the event are the Municipal Office of Wrocław and the Free Belarus University Foundation.
The human brain contains 86 billion neurons and just as many glial cells, responsible for supportive, nutritional, and protective functions. Each neuron can form connections with thousands of others, creating a network of trillions of synapses. These connections determine the brain’s capabilities – they are what make it so extraordinary. And so difficult to study.
People who meet their partners on the internet may experience lower marital satisfaction and feel love less intensely than those who meet in person. At least, that is what emerges from research conducted by an international team of scientists led by dr Marta Kowal from the UWr Institute of Psychology.
Poland’s presidency of the Council of the European Union is drawing to a close. One of the final and significant events of this presidency was the European University Alliances Forum, held on 12–13 June at the Library of the University of Wrocław. The University of Wrocław hosted the Forum on behalf of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

The University of Wrocław has been selected by the Polish Space Agency (POLSA) as one of two Polish universities that will conduct a live connection with the International Space Station (ISS). Our University has defeated multiple academic centres in prestigious eliminations, winning recognition for its involvement in science popularisation and educational activity.
The Foundation for Polish Science has announced the results of the 1/2024 call for proposals under the FIRST TEAM activity funded by the National Centre for Research and Development. A total of 174 projects were submitted for the call, and funding (amounting to nearly PLN 71 million) was awarded to 18 projects. Among them is “PROT-TOWING: opracowanie innowacyjnej technologii molekularnego holowania do selektywnej inaktywacji chorobotwórczych białek (eng. PROT-TOWING: Development of Innovative Molecular Tugging Technology for Selective Inactivation of Pathogenic Proteins)”, a project led by prof. Łukasz Opaliński from the Faculty of Biotechnology. Luis Alonso is a researcher at the City Science Group and the project lead of the Andorra Living Lab at the MIT Media Lab.
