UL: Popularisation of science

On 19-20 February 2024, a scientific conference entitled ‘Deutschland und Polen: schwierige Geschichte, aktuelle Herausforderungen, gemeinsame Zukunft’ (Germany and Poland: difficult history, current challenges, common future) was held at the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Wrocław and the UWr Institute for International and Security Studies.

W ubiegłym tygodniu Wydziale Chemii odbyła się IV Konferencja dla Nauczycieli Chemii, zorganizowana we współpracy z Okręgową komisją Egzaminacyjną we Wrocławiu. Konferencja miała zasięg ogólnopolski, oprócz nauczycieli ze szkół z Dolnego Śląska uczestniczyli w niej nauczyciele z woj. opolskiego, małopolskiego, śląskiego, w sumie 130 nauczycieli.

Molecular knots and links. While these objects are primarily of interest in mathematical knot theory, they have also captivated chemists, who designed and synthesised many molecules of nontrivial topology.
A recent study conducted by researchers from the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Wrocław was published in Angewandte Chemie International Edition and quickly attracted the international scientific community. The impact of the work is a highlight article – an expert commentary published in Nature Synthesis.

UWr Rector prof. November 30th is St. Andrew’s Day. The festivities held on this day, or its eve, are commonly referred to in Poland as “Andrzejki.” Celebrations of the holiday vary depending on the country. In Poland, “Andrzejki” is usually associated with matrimonial and future foretelling, while in Scotland, St. Andrew’s Day is a national holiday. Since the 14th century, St. Andrew has been the official patron saint of the country, which is reflected in their flag. It bears the symbolic X, referring to the form of the saint’s death on a cross of this particular shape.
