Competition for writers on education

Until 30 June, articles on education can be submitted as part of the 6th edition of the Prof. Roman Czernecki Award, organised by the EFC Foundation. The prize of PLN 10,000 is awarded to authors of texts in three categories – journalistic, scientific and specialist. The competition distinguishes those who in their texts aptly respond to current challenges facing the Polish education system, and there are more and more of these ahead of us.

The Prof. Roman Czernecki Award is the only initiative in Poland that brings together male academics and female academics, male journalists and female journalists, male teachers and female teachers, creating a space for the exchange of ideas around education across disciplines and divisions. – We have created this Award so that education has an important, and proper, place in the public space, and those who write about it are appreciated. We want to give the experts a voice – we want them to be heard through the competition. The statuette also goes to the journalistic community. Journalists are our allies in ensuring that educational topics reach a wider audience. On a daily basis at the foundation, we operate in and around the school. However, a school cannot function and change without involvement and in isolation,” says Aleksandra Saczuk, president of the EFC Foundation.

What are the aims of the competition? – ‘We want all the people who receive this Award to show not only that they are interested in education and that they understand it, but also that they have a proposal as to how you can move in the right direction, how you can change the classroom, the school and maybe even the whole world by exploring and changing different areas of education,’ explains Grażyna Czetwertyńska, a member of the Award Chapter.

Who is the patron of the competition? Roman Czernecki was an educator who passionately changed Polish education for the better for several decades. During the Second World War, he organised secret teaching. After the war, he founded a school in Szczekociny. He was involved in improving teaching methods. He was head of the school superintendency in Zielona Góra, pro-rector of the State Pedagogical College in Gdańsk, and a lecturer in the history of philosophy at the Warsaw University of Technology.

The Prof. Roman Czernecki Award is an appreciation of those who write about education with passion, with an eye for what is current and moving. So far, the EFC Foundation has already awarded 22 works out of 993 entries, and invited 30 reviewers and reviewers to collaborate.

How to enter the competition? The entry is made by the author or co-author of the publication. The prize of PLN 10,000 is awarded in three categories:

  • scientific: it is open to articles published in print or electronic form and chapters in a collective monograph,
  • journalistic: it is open to articles published in print or electronic form,
  • specialist: it is open to articles published in print or electronic form of a professional nature aimed at educators, teachers, school principals. The deadline for submissions is the 30th of June 2023.
