Conference “Artificial Intelligence ∀”
On Friday, 18 October, the First University Conference “Artificial Intelligence ∀” was held at the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science. It brought together nearly 200 participants interested in research and other activities related to artificial intelligence at the University of Wrocław.
The main part of the program consisted of 13 presentations by researchers conducting research on AI, using AI tools or interested in using them. The topics were wide-ranging; both existing needs, ideas for cooperation, but also scientific results and already implemented solutions were discussed. Research results from fields such as physics, biology, chemistry, computer science, sociology or history education were presented. One paper dealt with the possibility of using generative AI models to simplify the Polish language, while others discussed the prospects of applying AI tools in fields such as digital musicology or law. Also demonstrated was a system based on artificial intelligence algorithms that has been fully implemented and is being used by emergency services to search for missing persons.
The conference also included a poster session, during which those interested could learn more about selected research results conducted at UWr and talk with their authors.
At the end, there was a panel discussion “Artificial intelligence – an opportunity or a threat to science,” which included representatives of medical, legal, biological and computer sciences. The panel discussion addressed issues related to the current and potential use of artificial intelligence in scientific research, the role of scientists and the impact of technology on social life. Also outlined were new methodological and ethical problems that are emerging in various scientific fields as a consequence of the rapid development and greater availability of artificial intelligence tools.
The conference showed that the topic of AI unites researchers from all departments of our university. In fact, all speakers discussed the possibilities of future cooperation, and it was also one of the main topics of the backstage talks.
