Conference “Dimensions of Loneliness”
The Academy of Young Scholars and Artists, the Wrocław Academic Centre, and the Institute of Philosophy at the University of Wrocław invite you to participate in the conference “Dimensions of Loneliness,” which will take place on 24 October in the hall of the E-Sport Entrepreneurship Incubator (GEM Hotel Complex), 2b Mianowskiego Street.
The conference forms part of a series of events organised in Wrocław as part of the Wrocław Year of Good Relationships — Against Loneliness, announced on the initiative of the Mayor of Wrocław, Jacek Sutryk.
The opening lecture will be delivered by Professor Jan Miodek, who will speak on “Loneliness and Joy in Language.” The remainder of the programme consists of two parts: the first will address practical challenges associated with the experience of loneliness, while the second will present theoretical perspectives on the phenomenon. The practical section will include presentations on the biochemical aspects of loneliness and stress, loneliness in the contemporary labour market (including women’s loneliness in academia), and psychological aspects of loneliness, including experiences of depression and workplace bullying. The theoretical section will feature lectures devoted to selected philosophical approaches to loneliness, loneliness in art and aesthetics, and the relationship between the individual and society.

An integral part of the event will be a Composers’ Concert prepared by Dr Adam Porębski, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Composition, Conducting, Music Theory, and Music Therapy at the Academy of Music. The concert will also take place on 24 October at 6:00 p.m. in the Concert Hall of the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław (Building E, first floor, 2 John Paul II Square).
Admission to both the conference and the concert is free.
