Cooperation agreement with the Tanzania Wildlife Research Institute

We are pleased to announce that prof. Marta Osypińska from the Institute of Archaeology at the University of Wrocław has signed a cooperation agreement with the Tanzania Wildlife Research Institute (TAWIRI), concerning the implementation of the first Polish archaeological project in Tanzania’s history.

The agreement includes joint research into the prehistory of the Serengeti and the evolution of human-animal relationships in this unique area. Thanks to the support of the Tanzanian side – including at the ministerial level – the Polish archaeological mission will have a permanent field base in two locations in the heart of the Serengeti. Moreover, in recent days it has been confirmed that TAWIRI’s research infrastructure will serve two projects – a research grant has also been awarded to Dr Piotr Osypiński from the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Poznań. This marks an important step towards broader cooperation between Polish and Tanzanian scientific institutions. A representative of TAWIRI expressed hope that Polish archaeologists will become ambassadors of scientific collaboration with Tanzania for other Polish researchers as well. The project is gaining increasing significance – not only for archaeology and zoology, but also as a model example of international cooperation.
