Discussion panel about democracy, human rights, and diversity
Discussion panel Students Community and Academic Authorities in the Face of the Disruption of Democracy, Human Rights and Diversity will be held on May 29th, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the Office of the European Parliament in Wrocław at ul. Widok 10.
The panel is formed by the university-wide organisation Equal in Diversity at the University of Wrocław in cooperation with Order 2.0 Associaton [Stowarzyszenie Order 2.0].
The project is under the patronage of the Umbrella Foundation and the Independent Students’ Association at the University of Wrocław.
Our panellists include:
- Adam Boch, Delegate to the Student Self-Government of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań,
- Marcin Adamcewicz, Speaker of the Youth Parliament of the Republic of Poland,
- Jakub Juszczak, Chairman of the Youth Equality Committee of the Wrocław City Council.
The discussion panel is an ideal forum for raising important issues regarding the student and academic environment regarding:
- the reaction of university authorities and student centres, such as Student Self-Government, student organisations, and academic circles, to events related to the threat to human rights, the rule of law, and diversity in Poland,
- the quality of cooperation between academic and student centres in the face of the aforementioned threats,
- the need to promote a new model of organisation and activity assuming the protection of the foundations of democracy, human rights and diversity, regardless of the thematic scope of one’s activity.
The organisers describe the panel as follows:
Raising these topics should be important to us because we believe that the authorities of universities in Poland do not take appropriate actions to protect the rule of law, human rights, and diversity when state institutions are not only unable to nurture them but deliberately fight them. Students’ Unions, academic circles, and other student organisations also do not feel obliged to take any firm stance, let alone organise effective initiatives. In our opinion, no entity functioning in society should hide behind the thematic diversity of its activity when it comes to defending values and foundations on which their existence, security and development depend.
The nationwide project Organisation promoting democracy, diversity, and human rights, will be presented for the first time. The project is coordinated by the Order 2.0 Association.
