Dr Aneta Wojnar from the University of Wrocław to lead the international COST Action project
We are pleased to inform, that dr Aneta Wojnar from the Institute of Theoretical Physics at the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy of the University of Wrocław, has been awarded the prestigious European grant under the COST Action programme (European Cooperation in Science and Technology).
The contest results were announced on May 20th, 2025. Dr Wojnar is the main initiator and applicant for the project and, from the autumn of 2025, will assume the role of Chairperson of the newly created research network FuSe – Testing Fundamental Physics with Seismology. The University of Wrocław will serve as a grant holder, managing the budget of EUR 600000.
New research network FuSe consists of 76 researchers from 29 countries in Europe and beyond, representing disciplines such as: theoretical and experimental physics, planetary and stellar physics, seismology, artificial intelligence and Big Data analysis.
About the FuSe project – Testing Fundamental Physics with Seismology
FuSe aims to build a connection between fundamental physics and Earth sciences by investigating seismic phenomena and earthquake precursors. The project assumes the use of top-shelf technologies – including AI, machine learning and large-scale data analysis – in collaboration with small tech enterprises to translate scientific theories into specific, practical applications.
The main hypotheses of FuSe assume that natural seismic phenomena may carry a signature of unknown physics and reveal new aspects of fundamental interactions. Analysing seismic data through the lens of fundamental physical principles may lead to the discovery of new phenomena, while deepening our understanding of Earth’s interior.
The interdisciplinary approach integrates various scientific domains, contributing to both theoretical advancements and possible technological applications, including the development of an earthquake forecasting system.
Invitation to cooperation
Dr Aneta Wojnar encourages researchers from the University of Wrocław – especially specialists from various physical fields, Earth sciences and data analysis to join the FuSe network once the project begins in autumn 2025.
Joining the project offers a unique opportunity for international cooperation, involvement in cutting-edge research and impact on the development of breakthrough technologies and scientific theories.
