Environmental Inauguration 2025/2026

The traditional singing of Gaude Mater Polonia marked the opening of the environmental inauguration of the new academic year for the universities of Wrocław and Opole.

The guests gathered in the Leopoldine Hall were welcomed by the Chair of the College of Rectors of the Universities of Wrocław and Opole, ks. prof. dr hab. Sławomir Stasiak, Rector of the Pontifical Faculty of Theology in Wrocław.

The Chair of the College then read a congratulatory letter from dr inż. Marcin Kulasek, Minister of Science and Higher Education. The Mayor of Wrocław, Jacek Sutryk, also addressed the assembly.

The central part of the ceremony was, as always, the matriculation of first-year students from the universities of Wrocław, conducted by prof. Czesław Zając, Rector of Wrocław University of Economics and Business.

Following the matriculation, the laureates of the Wrocław Science Award were announced and the prizes presented. This year’s recipients were: prof. Krzysztof Abramski of Wrocław University of Science and Technology, prof. Janusz Degler of the University of Wrocław and prof. Bogusław Fiedor of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

The inaugural lecture, entitled Globalny kryzys niezrównoważonego rozwoju, was delivered by prof. Bogusław Fiedor.

Speaking on behalf of the students was Natalia Winogradow, Chair of the Legal and Financial Committee of the Student Self-Government at the University of Wrocław.

For the guests, the Academic Choir of Wrocław University of Science and Technology performed under the direction of dr Małgorzata Sapiecha-Muzioł.

The ceremony concluded with a procession to Wrocław’s Market Square, where, together with the city’s combined academic choirs, participants sang the traditional student anthem Gaudeamus igitur.
